Amber Smith, Health Educator

Ms. Smith joined Kids First Health Care in September 2018 as a health educator at Thornton High School (THS). Ms. Smith provides one-on-one education on reproductive health, pregnancy prevention nutrition, physical activity, and care for chronic conditions to THS students. She also facilitates the VOIHCE Youth Advisory Board for the THS school-based health center and helps run skill-building workshops in collaboration with the behavioral health provider. She is working towards a master’s degree in public health at the Colorado School of Public Health.

Hermila (Rebeca) Nunez, Medical Front Desk

Ms. Nunez joined the Kids First Health Care team in August 2019. In her role at THS, she checks in patients, books appointments, answers the phones, handles clinical paperwork, and more. She attended Emily Griffith Technical College and became a Certified Nursing Assistant in April 2019. She has worked in multiple positions in the healthcare field, including gastroenterology, OB/ GYN, pediatrics, family medicine and home health services. She is a Colorado native who graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School. She has a 13 year old son who plays football and baseball so she spends pretty much all of her free time watching him play. 

Cathy Rubio, Medical Assistant

Ms. Rubio joined the Kids First team at THS in July 2019. As a medical assistant, she assists with a variety of medical tasks, including recording patients’ medical histories, taking vitals, running labs, and more. Ms. Rubio graduated as a medical assistant from National American University in 2015. She is currently taking classes at Front Range Community College and working towards becoming a registered nurse. She loves working with the kids and her team, and she graduated from THS.

Dr. Sarah Winbourn, Pediatrician

Dr. Winbourn, a graduate of Vanderbilt University Medical School, joined the staff of Kids First in September 2008 so she has also been with the agency for ten years. She completed her residency through the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center Pediatric Residency Program and has practiced at The Children’s Hospital Denver, Denver Health Medical Center and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. In her role as Medical Director, Dr. Winbourn directs medical care at all Kids First clinics and oversees a staff of nine medical providers. Dr. Winbourn is bilingual in English and Spanish.
